Right, Leif had hooked his C64 up to a remote controlled toy truck. He had a pretty simple basic program that allowed him to drive the truck by joystick, under C64 control. Pretty neat! I'm pretty sure the black box is the control unit.

Ah Leif! You've done what I've always wanted to do with my C64. I tried hooking motors and stuff up to my C64 and always wanted to try robotics. Then I grew up and bought Lego Mindstorms instead.

Actually, the flash caused a shadow from the antenna, that's why it looks like a drinking straw :-)

Yes, the black box just contains the insides of the truck hand control unit. Using a VIC-REL to "fake" closing the contacts.
